While working as a big wig lawyer in Minneapolis, he fell under some tough times when finding himself on the wrong side of the law after a DUI. The result: he became the coach of the worst division 5 hockey team in Minnesota, the Ducks. Little did he know his punishment of community service would lead him back to his love of playing semi pro hockey, as well as coaching the future junior team USA to a gold medal at the Goodwill games.
